Alberto Forte

Biography

Alberto Forte is a Human Geography researcher at CAST (Centre for Advanced Studies in Tourism, University of Bologna, IT). He holds a PhD in Urban Cultural Geography from the University of Brighton (UK) where, in 2004, began investigating the management of change in first generation north European coastal resorts. Over the past five years Forte has developed a novel research agenda into the regenerative potential of Yachting Tourism in the North Adriatic Region and contributed to the production of high-impact, internationally recognized, research outputs. As a navigator, certified ASI/CONI Nautical Instructor, FIV competitive offshore racing sailor and FIPSAS licenced scuba diver he bridges academic theory with practical maritime expertise from which he draws much of his research inspiration, directions and primary data. He thus combines aspects of evolutionary biology, human development, tourism and marine management, coastal resort regeneration and socio-ecological resilience with Living System Theory and Regenerative Development thinking in a way to reframe Yachting Tourism as a tool for human-nature reconciliation in mature coastal resorts. He currently manages the final stage of 'Blue Dentro', a participatory action-based pilot research project that aims at integrating the pedagogy of both Experiential Nature Based Education and Adventure Education with Community Building practices and an emerging Regenerative Yachting Tourism Development framework in Rimini (IT).
