Antonio Barreca

Biography

He has been the General Director of Federturismo Confindustria since 2011, the Federation that brings together the national tourism industry supply chain (9000 companies) of 25 trade associations. From this position, he has worked on projects and dossiers concerning companies belonging to very different sectors including transport, boating, airports, hotels, railways, ski lifts, ports and many others, and on topics such as taxation, credit, national and European institutional relations, union negotiations, European projects, relations with territories and regions, international relations, project management and management. Since 2020, he has been Special Advisor and Head of Project Management to Prince Turki Bin Talal Al Saud in Saudi Arabia for the economic, tourism and infrastructural development of the Asir Region. He graduated with honors in Political Science from Luiss Guido Carli University, then obtained a PhD in Comparative Public Law from the University of Perugia and furthered his studies at Harvard at the John Kennedy School of Government in 2013 and 2015. He collaborated with the Department of Economic Affairs of the Presidency of the Council before moving to Brussels where he worked for 10 years as Director of the European Affairs Office of Federturismo Confindustria, collaborating with institutions such as the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Commission and the European Parliament. He teaches at Luiss Guido Carli University and at Luiss Business School (of which he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Master in Tourism Management) and has collaborated with numerous other universities. He was Vice President of the Tourism Commission of UNI (Italian Unification Body) and as a special delegate to those of ISO (International Standardisation Organization) in Geneva. He was Special Advisor on Tourism for the Sicily Region.
