Stefano Lotumolo

Biography

Stefano Lotumolo was born in Lucca in 1987. His connection with photography emerged at the age of 28, as an expression of a deep desire to encounter human beings in their authenticity. Over more than ten years of experiences in Africa, Asia, and South America, working exclusively with natural light, Stefano offers a journey into simplicity: his images speak of dignity, inner strength, and spirituality. His work has also explored the heart of rituals and ceremonies that for centuries have preserved the memory, teachings and spiritual heritage of communities around the world. Stefano has received international recognition and founded Radici Globali, a project that brings together photography and social commitment in northern Tanzania, in collaboration with the Maasai people. THE BOOK Sister Water – Ten Years with the Maasai of Mkuru In 2015, I arrived in Mkuru, a Maasai village in northern Tanzania. I didn't know it then, but I was finding a second home. Over the next ten years, I returned nine times. The people of Mkuru became my family. I watched children grow up, elders grow older, and friendships turn into lifelong bonds. Together with my friend Philipo, we turned trust into action: two solar-powered wells, the village’s first water distribution network, and a community garden. Sister Water is the story of ten years of shared life, friendship, and commitment. It reminds me that feeling at home in a place does not come only from where we are born, but from the relationships we build along the way.
